My masters, Bill & Andrea Spencer, own and manage what we think is a pretty successful Chevrolet dealership in Cobourg. I can’t give you too much background on the history of our business as I was only born ten years ago. Located at the west end of Cobourg, our dealership serves the markets of two towns. This seems to work out well as we sell about 100 new vehicles a month and run a busy service operation. Bill has taught me that customers are a good thing, but boy oh boy that took a long time to understand - it still doesn’t make a lot of sense. They do not feed, walk, or groom me! My DNA says strangers are bad. My role as Security Manager involves constant threat assessment and protection - checking in on Sarah in accounting, discouraging delivery services from dropping off envelopes and boxes that create work for the humans, and trying to keep all employees and drivers out of Bills office which sometimes requires a growl. The staff often reward me with a treat, so this service I provide is obviously vital to the successful operation of the place. I sit beside Bill for my shift every day. I even have my title on Bills desk! Our office is in the south west corner of the dealership which is a good spot to keep an eye on everything. This is how we keep the business successful. I have a water station right outside my office. And Bill takes me outside for breaks whenever I want! All he has to say is “Ohhh-K” or reach for his coat, and I’m up and ready! Sometimes Bill listens on his computer to someone who talks weird, something like “I need thirty-one-nine-na-nine-nine-nine, you’re out, now thirty two-t-two-t-two-two”. These humans are called auctioneers. This one is looking for a bid of $32,000 US dollars on one of our trade-ins. A strange thing happened a couple of years ago. Another German Shepherd named “Storm” showed up, prancing around the showroom, good spirited and eager to play with any human, tug on any toy, and give a happy bark. I have no idea what his aspirations are, but let me tell you this job calls for long growls, deep barks, and stern stares. There is no need for two Security Managers around here; I’ve got this. However, I have agreed to reassess this as I get older, leaving open the possibility that I may change my mind and teach him my ways....Read More
